If you are staying on a short term basis, we would recommend you to buy prepaid (“pay as you go”) card. If you are staying on a long term basis, it is cheaper to purchase a monthly tariff. The standard length of a contract is two years. If you decide to terminate earlier, you have to pay considerable fees.

Another possibility is to pay for a tariff but without a contract – in that case, you don’t have any of the obligations from a contract; but you pay approx. 15-30 % higher amount every month.

The main providers i the Czech Republic are O2 (https://www.o2.cz/osobni/en/), T-Mobile (https://www.t-mobile.cz) and Vodafone (https://www.vodafone.cz/en/). All of them have English customer care and the prices are more or less the same.

The phone card can be purchased in the provider´s shops that are usually placed in every bigger city. Prepaid cards can be also purchased at a newspaper’s agent or supermarket.

You will need your passport or another form of personal identification (identity card, driving licence), residence permit (applicable for non EU citizens). Certain providers may ask you for lease agreement.
