Permanent Residency

Why get a permanent residence permit in the Czech Republic? You will have a right to participate in the public health insurance system and you won’t be limited by the purpose of stay. It is not necessary to apply for a validity extension of the residence permit, only to notify the foreign police that your permit is due to expire, at which time you can request a new one.

The main condition to get permanent residency permit:

  • After 5 years of continuous residence in the Czech Republic, a foreign national can file an application for permanent residence.
  • A foreign national that has met the condition of 5 years of continuous residence in Member States of the European Union as holder of an EU Blue Card may apply for a permanent residence permit if as the holder of a Blue Card he/she has lived in the Czech Republic for at least 2 years.

 

An application for a permanent residence permit can be filed at the MOI offices in the region where you are registered. The application must be submitted in person.

 

The following requirements must be submitted with the application:

  1. travel document, e.g. a passport or EU card
  2. proof of 5 years continuous temporary residence in the Czech Republic
  3. photographs of the proper size
  4. proof of accommodation
  5. proof of funds for living expenses
  6. Czech language exam certificate
  7. upon request a document proving a clean criminal record, e.g. an extract from the Penal Registr

Documents submitted in fulfillment of the requirements for the application shall not be older than 180 days, except for the travel document, the birth certificate, the document demonstrating the requisite knowledge of the Czech language, and the photograph of the foreign national if it corresponds to his/her current appearance.
