Health Care

Health care facilities and personnel in the Czech Republic are of a high quality. Every individual living in the Czech Republic must pay contributions to the health insurance and health care system. The solidarity principle works on regular contributions to the system, i.e. the system can be accessed whenever help is needed. While all insured people are entitled to “standard” health care, some special treatments are not covered and small co-payments are required for medication, etc.

In the Czech Republic, it is common to go for preventive check ups that can help avoid possible health issues. Regular preventive check ups are administered at ordinances of general practitioners, paediatricians, as well as specialists such as dentists, gynaecologists, etc. Men, women and children see their doctors on a regular basis. If you need to visit a specialist, you can always get a referral from your general practitioner, but even without a referral you can make appointments with dentists, gynaecologists, dermatologists as well as ENT and eye specialists.

Urgent health care (emergency medical service)acute conditions that are not life-threatening, such as upper and lower airway inflammation, fever, angina, urinary tract inflammation, toothache, etc. Emergency medical services are administered in hospitals, where you can be treated in the case of a fracture or a serious injury. These emergency medical services are also provided to children.

Urgent health care (ambulance service)urgent and serious health issues that may be life-threatening such serious injuries, loss of consciousness, respiratory disorders, allergies or any other deterioration of health that may lead to long-term or permanent consequences or death. Contact information for ambulance service across the region including telephone numbers can be found at this link.

It is a duty of all to provide first aid and call an emergency service when the health or life of others is in danger.
